Backmasking:
Is Satan a subliminalist?
Since
Paul is dead was first heard while playing a Beatles records
backwards or was it Led Zeppelin doing Stairway to Heaven that first
was played in reverse,the
topic of Backmasking in songs has been hot. Even though
he never addresses backmasking directly, media guru Marshall
McLuhan was a huge fan of a book entitled Subliminal Seduction,
which explored the use of sexual imagery passively in advertisements.
This usage was neither proven nor disproven and for a time in the
late 1960's and into the 70's the idea of the subliminal was a newsworthy
topic akin to UFO's and Bigfoot, ie., readily believed and rarely
proven. Recently this theme is presented in Frank Zingrone's book
Media Symplex, and it also comes up in relation to backmasking,
or hiding messages within the soundtrack of a recording.
